Medical & psychotechnical exams for a taxi driver 2026 — cost, where, validity
Before you can carry passengers for money — in a taxi, Bolt, Uber or FreeNow — you must pass two mandatory exams: the medical and the psychotechnical. It's a legal requirement for paid passenger transport, and the certificates are needed for the license and registration. We explain what they cover, what they cost, how long they're valid and how to get them done fast.
The two exams and why — two certificates
A driver doing paid passenger transport must hold two current certificates. This isn't the same as an ordinary driving-license check — it's for professional work:
- Medical exam — by a doctor authorized to examine drivers (transport medicine). It assesses general health, vision, hearing and the cardiovascular system for professional driving. It ends with a medical certificate of no contraindications.
- Psychological (psychotechnical) exam — by a transport psychologist. It checks reaction time, attention, coordination and fitness to drive. It ends with a psychological certificate.
- Why. Both certificates are required to legally carry passengers — you need them to obtain a passenger-transport license (or when working on a partner's license extract) and when registering on the platforms.
Cost and how long they're valid
Prices vary by city and center, and the certificates have a fixed validity. Roughly, for 2026:
- Package (medical + psychotechnical + certificates) — about 499–599 zł. Usually cheaper in Warsaw and Poznań (~499 zł), pricier in other cities (~599 zł); some centers quote 550–650 zł. Separately, the psychotechnical exam can be up to ~150 zł and the medical ~200 zł — but confirm the actual rates at the specific center.
- Validity — 5 years. Certificates for a professional driver are valid for 5 years (until age 60).
- After age 60 — 2.5 years. Over 60 the period shortens to 2.5 years, so the exams must be repeated more often.
Where and how to do them — step by step
The whole process is quick — you can usually do both exams the same day. How it works:
- Find an occupational/transport medicine center offering professional-driver exams (taxi, category B for paid purposes). Ideally one with both an authorized doctor and a transport psychologist on site — you'll handle everything in one place.
- Bring your ID and driving license (plus glasses/lenses if you use them). You don't need to fast for standard driver exams.
- Collect both certificates. After the medical and psychotechnical exams you get the certificates — these are what you need for the license / extract and platform registration. Make copies and keep the originals safe.
