Chopin Airport for drivers: arrival waves
Chopin Airport attracts drivers with longer rides, but it is easy to lose an hour in the queue there. The landing time alone says little: what matters is when passengers with luggage leave the terminal and how many aircraft land at the same time. Below we explain how Podpin calculates arrival waves, which pickup rules apply at the airport and how to check whether waiting in the queue pays off.
Pickup rules: check them before your first ride
At the airport, the operator's and the platforms' rules apply, not only the traffic code. The Uber Airport instructions for Chopin Airport describe, among other things, waiting in a designated buffer car park, driving to the marked pickup zone on the arrivals level only after a notification in the app, and the requirement to hold a pass and a recommendation issued by the airport. Other platforms have their own pickup points and instructions.
Car park names, zones and required documents can change, so before your first trip check the current instructions in the driver app and ask your partner whether your car has the required entry permission. Do not stop at the taxi rank or in zones where signs forbid it, and do not offer rides to passengers in the hall outside the app.

What an arrival wave is
Ride demand jumps when several landings overlap in time. Podpin calls a wave a group of arrivals whose passenger exit windows overlap (with a 10-minute tolerance) and shows it when an estimated 300 or more passengers come out. Overly long waves are split into windows of up to 60 minutes so that you can realistically act on them.
The passenger count is an estimate: the typical number of seats for the aircraft type multiplied by a load factor of 0.82. It is a model assumption, not the airline's ticket data. Podpin also calculates waves for Modlin, Kraków, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Poznań and Katowice; delays shift waves, so look at the actual or updated landing time rather than the timetable.

Exit window: from landing to the terminal door
Between touchdown and a passenger at the pickup zone, anything from about ten to several tens of minutes pass. Podpin's model for Chopin Airport assumes about 7 minutes of taxiing, about 3 minutes until the doors open, a deplaning time based on the number of seats and extra time for luggage: about 10 minutes for flights from the Schengen area and about 25 minutes for the others, because passport control is added. An unknown origin country is treated conservatively, as non-Schengen.
These values are conservative assumptions, not a measurement for a specific flight. The practical takeaway: if the drive from where you are takes longer than the time until the window opens, and there is already a long queue in the buffer car park, the wave may disperse before you get a request.

When the queue pays off
Compare an airport ride with what you would earn in the city in the same time. Divide the ride payout by the whole time: the drive to the airport, the wait in the queue, the ride itself and a possible empty return. Example: 15 minutes to get there, a 60-minute queue and a 30-minute ride add up to 1 h 45 min of work for one request. Compare the result with your own average hourly payout from recent weeks at the same hours.
When the airport feature is available in your city, the Today screen in Podpin shows the next wave with a countdown to the start of the exit window. There you can mark that you are going or report the queue length: under 20, 20–40, 40–60 or over 60 minutes. If you report a queue of over 60 minutes, for the next 2 hours the app reminds you less often about waves at that airport.

Chopin and Modlin: the licence area
Chopin Airport lies within Warsaw, so the Warsaw taxi licence covers it. Modlin is in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, outside that licence area. A ride with a passenger from Warsaw to Modlin is possible, but waiting there for new requests with a Warsaw licence is a matter of the exceptions in Article 6 of the Road Transport Act.
Before taking requests from Modlin, confirm with your partner which area the licence behind the extract in your car covers and which rules the platform applies. The extract is issued by the authority at the carrier's request; the partner cannot "extend" it on its own.
